The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nepal is an independent and autonomous body established in the year 2000 as a statutory body under the Human Rights Commission Act of 1997. The NHRC, Nepal was upgraded into a constitutional body by the Constitution of Nepal. It has a sphere of responsibilities mandated in the Constitution of Nepal. The NHRC, Nepal’s motto - ‘Human Rights for all, at every household: basis of peace and development’  sets  a new goal of taking human rights’ education and awareness to every household.

The NHRC, Nepal  is fully compliant with the principles relating to the status of National Institutions for the promotion and protection of the human rights. It has been consistently accredited with “A” status by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.  The status of the Commission and the commitment for the promotion, protection of and respect for human rights positively contributed to Nepal for having been  elected to  United Nations Human Rights Council in 2017.
